What is a High Voltage Load Break Switch?

A High Voltage Load Break Switch (HV LBS) is an electrical device that operates between a high voltage circuit breaker and a high voltage disconnecting switch. It is often used in conjunction with a high voltage fuse to control power transformers. Equipped with a basic arc extinguishing mechanism, the HV LBS can switch certain load currents and overload currents but is unable to interrupt short-circuit currents. For this reason, it is typically paired with a high voltage fuse for short-circuit protection.

1. El-Level Universal Load Switch
   Designed for normal power distribution systems that require continuous power feeding and do not involve frequent switching operations.
2. E2-Level Universal Load Switch
   Requires minimal maintenance over its service life, with no need for an overhaul of the main circuit-breaking components.
3. E3-Level General-Purpose Load Switch
   Capable of handling frequent switching of large currents and closing short-circuit currents at higher frequencies.
4. M1-Class Universal Load Switch
   Features a mechanical lifespan of 100 operational cycles.
5. M2-Class Universal Load Switch
   Designed for special applications, offering an extended mechanical lifespan of 500 operational cycles.

Breaking and Closing Capabilities of Load Switches (Rated Voltage ≤ 40.5 kV)

1. Rated Active Load Breaking Current: Equal to the rated current.
2. Rated No-Load Transformer Breaking Current: Equal to 1% of the rated current.
3. Rated Distribution Line Closed-Loop Breaking Current: Equal to the rated current.
4. Rated Cable and Line Charging Breaking Currents: Refer to the applicable standards (see table for details).
5. Rated Short-Circuit Making Current: Equal to the rated peak withstand current.
